Success of first Davis Cup production leads to Web cast of road tie

Tennis Canada announced Tuesday that the upcoming Davis Cup by BNP Paribas tie from April 11-13, 2008 between Canada and Chile will be Web cast live on tenniscanada.com. The Web cast, presented by Miele, will be the only place in the country for fans to watch Canada take on Chile in the second round of the Americas Zone Group I. The Miele Canadian Davis Cup team will compete on outdoor clay courts at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile for a spot in the World Group playoffs.

This live Web cast comes as a follow-up to the successful inaugural Davis Cup Web cast in Calgary.  More than 92,000 Canadians logged on to watch Canada defeat Mexico 4-1 in the first round of the Americas Zone Group I in February. It was the first exclusive Web cast of a Davis Cup or Fed Cup tie.

“Canadian tennis fans proved that they are engaged in this world-class event,” said Michael S. Downey, president and chief executive officer, Tennis Canada. “Web casting this tie in Chile is a very important component of Tennis Canada’s mission to promote and showcase tennis. It is very exciting to be able to provide Canada with the opportunity to see its best players compete for their country.”

This Web cast is made possible due in large part to the co-operation of TVN, Chile’s national television station. TVN has agreed to provide the live feed to Toronto where it will then be configured by Tennis Canada IT Services and disseminated to the country online. Tennis Canada will become the first tennis nation to exclusively Web cast an away Davis Cup tie to viewers.
