1) GETTING STARTED IN TENNIS

Introductory Junior Lesson – 3rd Edition May 2004

The Introductory Junior Lessons are designed for children ages 8-17 who have limited tennis experience (beginner and novice level). There are eight 1-hour lessons from mid court and eight 1-hour lessons from the full court.

Introductory Adult Lesson – 2nd Edition April 2004

These Introductory Adult Lessons are designed for the 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 level player (as per Play Tennis Self Rating Guide). The lessons were designed in function of the most common format: six group lessons of 90 minutes. The intention of the lessons is to prepare participants to practise with each other and to ultimately join organized play activities such as round robins and leagues.

Skills Development Manual – 1998

Can be used by parents, teachers and coaches introducing the sport to children aged 5-8. Presented in a simple format, it provides games and activities which help develop necessary skills. It acts as support material for the introductory Instructor certification level.

2) HIGH PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT

Winning Tennis Tactics (DVD) - April 2006

This new Tennis Canada production provides a detailed look at the tactics required for success in tennis. The video showcases top professionals demonstrating specific game situations and breaks them down into four major themes including: Building the Point, Finishing the Point, Staying in the Point and Turning the Point Around (counter-attacking). This video is a valuable educational tool for the coaches and players as it explains clearly how to execute winning tactics.

The Long Term Physical Development Program (DVD & Manual) - 2005

This manual and DVD set is designed to assist coaches with the implementation of an effective physical development plan for their junior development program. Compiled by Andre Parent Tennis Canada's National Fitness Coach using international best practices and Canada's Long-Term Athlete Development Model.

 

Building the Foundation: Developing Great 'Tennis Habits' through an Improved Warm-up Routine (Guide) – June 2004

This document is designed to assist tennis coaches and pros with the implementation of an effective tennis warm up. Developing proper fundamentals during a daily warm up routine will lead to improved player performance.

 

Doubles Tennis Tactics DVD/video - 2002

Developed by our own Louis Cayer in conjunction with the ITF, "Doubles Tennis Tactics" is a must see. About 30 min long, it covers the most effective patterns for team strategy, serving, receiving, poaching, movement and positioning.

 

Doubles Tennis Tactics Book - 2004

Developed by our own Louis Cayer in conjunction with the ITF, "Doubles Tennis Tactics" teaches you what positions and movements to use and what shots to make using proven patterns of play.  These patterns will increase consistency, put more pressure on opponents, and result in greater success in competitions.

 

Warm-up DVD – 2000

The video covers both the physical and tennis specific aspects of the warm-up and reviews some of the important fundamentals a coach should look at during the warm-up period. It also emphasizes the importance of developing good habits during the warm-up.

 

Footwork and Court Coverage DVD/Video - 2002

The purpose of this video is to help coaches better understand the logic, both technically and tactically of footwork and court coverage. This video is broken down into three major parts. The first part shows specific situations of play and the corresponding footwork, the second part shows the logic for positioning and court coverage and the third part shows general footwork skills/fundamentals.

Core & Shoulder Exercises for Tennis Athletes

 

In this DVD, Marlene Nobrega, Tennis Canada’s Physiotherapist explains how players can prevent common tennis-related injuries by strengthening both the shoulder and core areas. You will see Canada’s #1 ranked player, Frank Dancevic, demonstrates the exercises. 

 

Player Development Competencies for Junior High Performance Development – 2003 (What the player should be able to do)

Provides general description of the competencies, which should be developed by the Under-11, Under-14 and Under-18 age groups for each component of development.

Player Development Training Guidelines - 2003 (What the coach might consider doing in his/her annual content)

Provides recommendations, suggestions, and considerations for the type of content that should be covered for the Under-11, Under-14 and Under-18 age groups. In other words, general "training guidelines for the different age groups".

Under-14 Club Training Program - 1992

This manual, third in the series of Tennis Canada's Club Training programs, is designed for graduates of the "Basics Tennis" program. It is designed to help develop athletes to an advanced level and tournament play. Based on a yearly plan, it includes the four components of athlete development and acts as support material for the Coach 2 certification course.

Under-18 Club Training Program - 1989

Fourth in the series, this manual is designed for the development of Under-18 players who have graduated from the "Under-14" program. The program provides a three-to-four-year systematic development plan so that athletes can fulfill their potential through the growth of an individual game style.

Tennis in a Can Implementation Guide (DVD & Guide) - 2004

This manual has been developed to provide the school teachers with a turnkey school tennis program.  Recognizing that not all teachers have a tennis background, this program was designed to be very easy to implement for classes of up to thirty-two students.

Tennis Development Centre School Instructional Program (DVD & Program Guide) – April 2002

The purpose of the video and program guide is to help TDC coaches implement a Schools tennis program within the confines of a school gym. Roadblocks such as content and drill organization will be covered. The video is organized into two parts: the first part shows the common characteristics of a typical lesson; the second part shows a skill progression, which could be used with children, aged 5-8 years.

Tennis Canada Wheelchair Tennis Instructor Certificate Course Manual - August 2003

This manual has been designed as a supplement and is best used in harmony with the Tennis Canada Instructor manual for able-bodied tennis. However, it works as a 'stand alone' reference as well. It includes general information on the wheelchair player, the wheelchair game, equipment, and rules. The unique aspect of this manual is it is based on the Game-based approach and includes a section on how to develop players using GBA. Also included is a section on technical development that has a 'cutting edge' chapter on mobility.

Tennis Canada Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Manual – February 2006

Tennis Canada is pleased to present the first manual written worldwide on wheelchair tennis doubles. Written by Canadian Louis Lamontagne-Muller, and supported by Tennis Canada, the manual focuses on Building The Team including basic doubles styles, picking a style and communication. Part Two focuses on Training The Team and includes implementing a chosen style and positioning, taking or regaining control of the point. A special section on doubles mobility is included in the appendices. This is a must read for wheelchair tennis coaches and players.
